Power out in part of the house? Check these first.
Some fixes take a minute. If none of these do it, call us at (423) 416-3330, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Is it just your house?
If the whole house is dark, look outside. If the neighbors are out too, it’s a power company problem, so call them instead of us.
Look for a tripped breaker
Open the panel. A tripped breaker sits in the middle, or points the opposite way from the others.
Push it all the way to OFF, then back to ON. Reset it once, not over and over.
Unplug what was running
If the power went out when something switched on, like a space heater or a vacuum, unplug it before you reset the breaker.
Press Reset on GFCI outlets
Outlets with Test and Reset buttons are often in kitchens, bathrooms, garages and outside. One tripped GFCI can shut off other outlets down the line. Press Reset firmly.
If it trips again, leave it off
A breaker or GFCI that trips again right away is protecting a problem on that circuit. Leave it off and call us at (423) 416-3330.
Burning smell, smoke or a hot outlet? Stop.
Don’t reset anything. If you see smoke or fire, get everyone out and call 911. For a warm or buzzing outlet, scorch marks or a burning smell, leave it alone and call us.
